Cary and Carrie, Two Fashion Icons Reinterpreted

One of the main goals of The Art of Fine Living is to celebrate designers and the ability of design to contribute to all our lives. Great design is both visually uplifting and highly functional. As the great architect, Louis Sullivan (Frank Lloyd Wright’s mentor) stated, “form must ever follow function.”

Many of you have written and asked that I share images of my own work and so in the spirit of combining form and function, beauty and purpose, I have shared images of two of my personal favorites from the collections I have created for Moore Councill Fine Furniture. The “Cary Gentleman’s Chest” and the “Carrie Couture Wardrobe” for women were each inspired by two of my personal fashion icons, Cary Grant and the character, Carrie Bradshaw, from Sex in The City, brought to life by Sarah Jessica Parker. I have drawn great personal inspiration from these two wonderfully elegant actors. I was also motivated by my own practical needs to house and showcase our fashion accessories in a manner that was beautiful and also efficient. Like many America’s we live in an older house, a 1920s Italianate home in the heart of the Monument Avenue historic district. Houses of this period typically have great millwork and craftsmanship, but they fall short in terms of closet space. Here are my solutions to this problem. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
